The statement "Money cannot buy happiness" really shows through in the story The Great Gatsby. Gatsby spent a lot of his time throwing parties and spending money trying to impress Daisy so that he could be with her. His whole idea behind the parties was that one day he was hoping Daisy would come to one. As you can tell this never worked out for him even in the end because she didn't choose to be with him. After his death, she chose to stay with her husband Tom. So in truth, he wasn't happy because he didn't get to be with Daisy, and look at all the money he wasted. So it just proves that money can't really buy happiness.
